OCRATES. And a thing is not seen because it is visible, but conversely, visible because it is seen; nor is a thing led because it is in the state of being led, or carried because it is in the state of being carried, but the converse of this. And now I think, Euthyphro, that my meaning will be intelligible; and my meaning is, that any state of action or passion implies previous action or passion. Οὐκ ἄρα διότι ὁρώμενόν γέ ἐστιν͵ διὰ τοῦτο ὁρᾶται͵ ἀλλὰ τὸ ἐναντίον διότι ὁρᾶται͵ διὰ τοῦτο ὁρώμενον· οὐδὲ διότι ἀγόμενόν ἐστιν͵ διὰ τοῦτο ἄγεται͵ ἀλλὰ διότι ἄγεται͵ διὰ τοῦτο ἀγόμενον· οὐδὲ διότι φερόμενον φέρεται͵ ἀλλὰ διότι φέρεται φερόμενον. ἆρα κατάδηλον͵ ὦ Εὐθύφρων͵ ὃ βούλομαι λέγειν; βούλομαι δὲ τόδε͵ ὅτι εἴ τι γίγνεται ἤ τι πάσχει͵ οὐχ ὅτι γιγνόμενόν ἐστι γίγνεται͵ ἀλλ΄ ὅτι γίγνεται γιγνόμενόν ἐστιν· οὐδ΄ ὅτι πάσχον ἐστὶ πάσχει͵ ἀλλ΄ ὅτι πάσχει πάσχον ἐστίν· ἢ οὐ συγχωρεῖς οὕτω;

ΕΥΘ. Ἔγωγε.
