A Grave Memory

The charred bridge gazes ahead at the embankment
and sees a path beyond vanish to a point.
No Lifes's fruits here, but buffalo weed that is rampant.

Wind-swept sepia dust
Colours monochrome the inscription
on the headstone. Red roses are placed at

the head vase and jasmine
at the feet; satchels of plasma
and serum to nuture a body of memories.

A convulsive gasp scythes a sporadic
weed that has grown beside the granite plaque.
And fresh tears wash away the dust covered epigram.
