hi there to everyone. i must share with you that i have thoroughly enjoyed the novel. i have an urgent question thuogh concerning the novel.
i would like opinions on why u think Dora dies in the novel. wat i came up with was obviously so that David could be with Agnes. this is linked to the fact that Dabid is maturing and needed someone on his own level to relate to. do u guys thik he could have been completely content with Dora if she had not died? or would his life have been lived in utter misry? please share your views as to why you think Dickens kills her off?

Hi i think that david would not have been happy with her cuz she was just too ... far beyond words. his life would not hav been in uttter misery but he would have had to go thru quarrels on a daily basis and he might havbeen driven 2 resort to seein sum 1 else and i agree with dickens 4 killing her off because i so did not like her character in the novel and i pictured david being with someone who he would hav deserved and they will please each other etc... i like your opinions. i think that they are very very great and thank u 4 sharin them

I think that David would have been happy with her if she had not died, because he had accepted her weaknesses already. However I won't deny David was happier with Agnes, she was a full, level-headed woman.

In Chapter XLVIII-Domestic, there is this paragraph:
"I had hoped that lighter hands than mine would help to mould her character, and that a baby-smile upon her breast might change my child-wife to a woman. It was not to be. The spirit fluttered for a moment on the threshold of its little prison, and, unconscious of captivity, took wing."
It gives me the impression that perhaps Dora conceived and miscarried and it weakened her so much that she never recovered, and thus, died. I may be wrong, though.

my opinian is that the reasons for DORA`S DEATH ARE Not only connected with her physical health.During the last months of her marriage with David she became weak and not enough self-confident.She became an orphan and that caused her strongless spirit.She was confused and she found David.During their short marriage mister COPPERFIELD became more busy.And Dora is again weak

REALLY, WHEN I NOW COME TO THINK UPON IT, IT REALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER IF THE TWO HAD NOT HURRIED INTO SUCH A RELATIONSHIP, AND HAD WAITED, TILL THEY BOTH WERE OLDER AND MUCH MATURE ENOUGH.
