Hi, I need to make a paper about religion in D.C., but it is difficult to me because, in my opinion, this topic is not so clear in the book. I would like to know if anyone knows some page which can help me?
Thanks,

Michele

I can't point you to a paper - but would like to know if there is one on DC and religion. Personally, I felt like DC was an excellent sermon delivered in the most wonderful manner. Though different in style, Dickens, like Austen, reveal the quintessential versions of whatever type of person one may meet in life. I especially love his exposure of the "letter of the law" types (Murdstone & Co) - does something about a plank in ones own eye come to mind? - verses the "spirit of the law" type (D. Pegotty, Agnes, DC himself) - the truly humble (Betsey) vs. the pseudo-humble/self-righteous (HEEP!). DC is such a wonderful example of someone who had every reason to be bitter, yet only ever extended grace. Oh to have the depth of character of DC and friends.

the only time i can recall religion explicitly mentioned in dc is regarding the murdstones. they are very free in consigning people they don't like to perdition(paraphrase). also- "what such people miscall their religion, is a vent for their bad humours and arrogance." "that i don't find authority for mr.and mrs. murdstone in the new testament."(all from 828)
