Do you think Mrs. Trotwood is a feminist? Why does she want a niece?

Yes, I believe she is very much a feminist. I think that she may be a little on the looney side too (think about the grass plot). She wanted a neice because she was going to take it and raise it herself to make her the perfect woman that she was never able to be. Does this help?

I don't see any ideology behind Mrs. Trotwood's behaviour, and feminism is an ideology. Think of the possibility that she is just very much dissapointed with her own marriage. And think also of men she does like very much, of men whose advice needs and asks for, like Dick or Wickfield, of men with whom she co-operates, and of course of David himself whom she loved.
