I have just completed reading David Copperfield and I am not sure I understand what is so wonderful about Mr. Micawber. I hear people saying "Oh, he's such a hero" and "Mr. Micawber is so wonderful" but I just don't understand. Is it because he stood up to Uriah? Is it because Copperfield likes him so much? Or is he really not such a hero? Please respond before Dec. 4. Thanks,
David

Maybe you're right, but in the mind of an abused child a man that offers the warmth he needs might seem a little heroic - although a careful reading of David Copperfield would reveal, I think, that at least later on, as a grown up, David feels a little ashamed of Micawber. But he never stopped loving him. If you are studying this subject you can use the "Micawber passages" at https://www.ellopos.net/dickens/copper_micawber.html
