An Idyllic Love Dance
In a shady wooded glen
under cover
from the afernoon sun.
Rythmic lyres and reeds intone
duelling Shepherds Idylls.
Hands gently clasped:
we go
round and around in a circle
two steps in, two steps back
torso left, torso right
then eyes meet
frozen
in an eternal moment
as our rapid
indistinct wing strokes
suspend in mid-air
paused
to drink nectar
from honeyed eyes.
Release
then disengage the gaze
Music tugs in directions
it knows best;
locked in time not to waver,
two steps in, two steps back,
torso left, torso right
to strains of a Lyre's heart-strings
