I need to know how Dickens has portrayed sex before marriage. I know it is shown in the relationship between Emily and Steerforth - when they eloped together - but I need direct references to how Dickens and his society of the time viewed it. Im really stuck and would appreciate some help as quicky as possible. Thanks.

I am sure they frowned on it. As it is proven the way Emily's family freaked when she ran off. I believe they were mostly Catholic at that time where the book was written. Even though it happened back then doesn't mean the society accepted and condoned it.

Anglican, not Catholic, but besides that you are correct. Society pretty much took for granted that sex before marriage was morally wrong; Dickens didn't need to elaborate on the theme, and certainly would not have gone so far as to even describe such an act.
