A Dire Drama

You fooled us all
With great dramatic skill;
The timing of your surprise
Bards versified about you;
In their easy drinking revelry.
Said: you were but a myth,
Buried inside historical readers

Fished out from the sea
at turn of the century
Placed on a pedestal
Legs astride in the
Amphitheatre
Royal and inscrutable.
Forearm pointing;
commanding sun and sea;
poised for dramas to begin
