A Little After Dinner Music   

Within the house
silence welled back
A moments peace then
an unannounced antique
sound followed
real:
not from the
bakelite radio on the
fireplace mantle
Knuckels crackled,
rapid arpeggios

Solitary phrase
lingered:
Pause.
The phrase retaken:
modified, inverted:
inside out
until no where to go
Silence
welled back yet again
and engulfed the room
Rameau and Telemann
had departed
