Hi, im a Greek born in Australia I have a passion for the history of Greece and my people. I am building a home library and I was wondering what ancient texts the Greeks and the Philhellenes in these forums can give me.

Can you give me the name of the book and the ancient Authors name.

Thanks Michael.

Do you mean actually "books"? The ancient texts are available online to read and download, even to search for keywords.

A basic library, meaning not 'limited' or just 'short', but a library containing only the most important books for Hellenism, would include www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/ancient-greece/homer.asp">Homer, www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/ancient-greece/plato-homepage.asp">Plato, www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/ancient-greece/aeschylus.asp">Aeschylus and www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/ancient-greece/sophocles.asp">Sophocles, then passing to the Christian era with the Cappadocian Fathers (www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/fathers/st-basil-thegreat.asp">St. Basil, www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/fathers/gregory-theologian.asp">St. Gregory the Theologian, www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/fathers/gregory-of-nyssa.asp">St. Gregory of Nyssa), www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/fathers/maximus.asp">Maximus Confessor and www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/fathers/symeon.asp">Symeon the New Theologian, and arriving to modern times with www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/modern/solomos.asp">Solomos, www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/modern/cavafy.asp">Cavafy, Elytis, www.ellopos.net/elpenor/greek-texts/modern/papatsonis.asp">Papatsonis and Papadiamantis.

You can use the links above to find references to specific works. However your understanding should not be determined by books only. You should also pay attention to the art of various epochs, customs, worship, etc.
