MARTIN BURKE

Reading Meister Eckhart

A poem in 6 parts, starting with the verses

1 : To go \ 2 : Without desire \ 3 : And singing, dancing, wild with joy \
4 : To be what we were before we were \ 5 : For all that it is \ 6 : You must appreciate the setting

Increase my amazement at Thee

1

To go

From form to core

Theory to knowledge

To pass beyond the gateway of names-

This is the true liberation

Though in the folly of the mind much may be lost

How the infinite loves the wonderment of the finite!

How precious the true bewilderment!

Yet the mind can resist the heart’s inclinations

And block the moments of grace
