- "KNOW THEN, my dear boy, that we need ethics because we are away from love. When we feel love we set ourselves free from any sort of ethics, from all rules and limits. Lack of love, want of love makes ethics necessary, and not the opposite. ... Men have many ways to express their experience. You know it, you are a writer yourself. I think that this is the time to get rid of Dante's model, where hell is the ark of sins and heaven an endless repetition of a laudatory haiku. Dante is really great, I don't disagree. But let's say that his model is just not accurate."

- "What would you like me to put in the place of that monument?" I asked like I was receiving an order.

- "I'd like you to experiment with the parable of the Prodigal Son. To ask yourself what life has to do with leaving your homeland, and death with coming back, perhaps." ...

Jean Marie Lefévre, The White Thinking

Excerpts from J. M. Lefévre, La Pensée Blanche, 2000
Compiled, translated and introduced in English for ELLOPOS by Nat Gerrs

THE STORY roughly goes like this. Jean, a man "full of heart", wishes and tries to become a member to a society of illuminati so that he would finally give a meaning to his life. In the relevant talks great parts of the Western philosophical, religious and literary tradition are discussed or implied in a way that - combined with the other activities of the persons of the story - reveal almost everything as a sort of a "divine conspiracy" for the salvation of Jean's being, which is his real initiation to what he seeks, with love and death as the most obvious names of that initiation's way. [More]

The Music Pages"I have been very fortunate in 60 years of performance," he said in 1995, "to have learned what it means to be an eternal student, an eternal optimist — because you hope the next time will always be a little better — and eternally in love with music. Also, as I said to a young player the other day, you have no idea of what you don't know. Now it's time that you begin to learn. And you should get up every morning and say thank God, thank the Lord, thank whomever you want, thank you, thank you, for making me a musician." Violinist Isaac Stern, Died September 23 at 81. More

The Music PagesIt is hard to match Naxos on the sheer volume and variety of repertoire. Its release schedule brims with traditional Baroque, Classical and Romantic repertoire, as well as many offbeat offerings. September 2001 releases include further installments in the label's Malcolm Arnold symphony cycle (Nos. 7 & 8) led by Andrew Penny, and label stalwart Jenö Jandö begins a series of piano works by Bela Bartók. As part of the vaunted "American Classics" series, the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Ensemble performs George Antheil's notorious Ballet Méchanique, and in October, the same series offers a performance of Ned Rorem's song cycle Fourteen Songs on American Poetry, performed by Carol Farley with the composer at the piano. Naxos is also entering the DVD audio market with a recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons by the London Mozart Players. - More

A new worm virus, W32.Nimda.A@mm, also known as Nimda, is spreading rapidly via e-mail. It infects PCs running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 and 5.5, and servers running Microsoft IIS 4.0 and 5.0. Opening an e-mail with a hidden attachment can cause infection, and has the potential to cause problems with files stored on the hard drive. Infected systems can open additional security holes, slow down networks, and cause bandwidth problems as the virus tries to spread itself. Nimda Removal Tool * Protection

vSubst creates a virtual drive for any folder easily. You can use the new drive as if it were a physical drive. Virtual drives are removed automatically on Windows-shutdown or are permanent - recreated each time Windows starts. As usual, we have tried similar utilities and I recall one of them that slowed down the whole system and caused so many problems that I had to uninstall it immediately. But I needed something to fool a program, make it believe that on a certain folder there was a cd-rom. Then came vSubst and solved everything easily and safely. Such a small tool, you can't believe it is that powerful...

Filling online forms manually is boring and takes time. AI RoboForm can do the form filling for you. You know how IE works: you start typing and it completes the field (if you want). Al RoboForm takes auto completion a step farther, and it is a big and essential step... Just press OK, (you can skip even this) and the whole form is instantly completed with values taken from predefined identities you create! It even remembers pages with specific passwords, etc, and completes them too instantly. Great!

Now you might say, "Bad people have a good time, they get their way more than other people". Solomon says: "The evil man should not say, 'What harm will it do me if I do evil and it does not hurt me?', or, 'Who would do anything to me on that account?' ". The very fact that you do evil is to your great harm and causes you enough pain. Be assured of this by the eternal Truth, that this is a great sign of God's anger: He could do nothing worse to the sinner, neither with hell nor with anything else, than He does by permitting or allowing him to be sinful, and does not show him mercy by imposing such great distress on him that he cannot sin. And if God were to give him all the sorrow in the world, He could not afflict him more harshly than he is afflicted by being a sinner. - Meister Eckhart, Sermon 74
