And if good could be bought, you would spare no money; but if mercy is freely at your feet, you despise it for its cheapness. Every time is suitable for your ablution, since any time may be your death. With Paul I shout to you with that loud voice, "Behold now is the accepted time; behold Now is the day of salvation;" (II Cor. 6.2) and that Now does not point to any one time, but is every present moment. And again "Awake, thou that sleepest, and Christ shall give thee light," (Eph. 5.14) dispelling the darkness of sin. For as Isaiah says, In the night hope is evil, and it is more profitable to be received in the morning.

Καὶ εἰ μὲν ὤνιον ἦν σοι τὸ ἀγαθόν͵ μηδενὸς ἂν φείδεσθαι χρήματος· εἰ δὲ πρόκειται τὸ φιλάνθρωπον͵ καταφρονεῖς τῷ ἑτοίμῳ τῆς εὐποιΐας. Πᾶς σοι καιρὸς ἐκπλύσεως͵ ἐπειδὴ πᾶς ἀναλύσεως. Μετὰ Παύλου βοῶ σοι͵ τῆς μεγάλης φωνῆς· Ἰδοὺ νῦν καιρὸς εὐπρόσδεκτος͵ ἰδοὺ νῦν ἡμέρα σωτηρίας· οὐχ ἕνα καιρὸν͵ ἀλλὰ πάντα τοῦ Νῦν ὁρίζοντος. Καὶ πάλιν· Ἔγειραι͵ ὁ καθεύδων καὶ ἀνάστα ἐκ τῶν νεκρῶν καὶ ἐπιφαύσει σοι ὁ Χριστὸς λύων τὴν νύκτα τῆς ἁμαρτίας· ἐπειδὴ Ἐν νυκτὶ ἐλπὶς πονηρά͵ κατὰ τὸν Ἡσαΐαν͵ καὶ τῷ πρωῒ ληφθῆναι λυσιτελέστερον.
