    Falconry

An energised synapse flashed
across the radar screen.
The silver bird soared
hugged the rocky crag
then
smashed into smithereens
a litter of jagged
twisted metal
and idly
reflected the alien
jigsaw sun.

Wounded, as if a bolt
from a cross-bow pierced
the soft feathered flesh.
Slow laboured breaths
with faint beats
pumped
bloody propellant
into the earth
This rare bird would not return
and settle on a leathered glove.

Simple folks stared
at the disarray
on their hillside:
the odds and ends
of a rare alloy;
the unsual wing span
with sleek lines,
then went home
with blank faces
and knitted brows.

Some folks remained
and pried:
sifting, poking
through the wreckage;
would study, experiment
until the day
another synapse
would flash across the cerebrum
and the pieces to the jigsaw
fall in place:
a break through
in new terra firma
stealth-falconry.
